School Based Nursing Support Services - For children and youth with disabilities

Provided by Vancouver Coastal Health

Works with parents, the Ministry of Children and Family Development, schools, hospitals and physicians to provide a range of public health nursing services for ​children and youth aged 0-19 with disabilities in the pre-school/school settings.
Services include:
  • Health assessments and consultation
  • Development of child-specific health procedures (e.g. feeding, glucose monitoring, suctioning, catheter care, special equipment instructions)
  • Education, training and delegating care to preschool/school staff
  • Monitoring and evaluating caregiver competency in the school setting
  • Advocacy
Additional support for children and youth with special needs, including occupational and physiotherapy, is provided through Sea to Sky Community Services.
